The case study we’d like to present is the experience that we do in an Italian company world leader in machine tools for marble and steel, where we introduced new open source platforms that extend the existing infrastructure and integrate with it.
2 years ago we started to develop ad hoc application for agile and lean project management (Leanplan) using open source technologies and for the first time in the company we have installed it on the Linux operating system.
Then we created an intranet portal using opensource products (Liferay) and the company has also opted for the introduction of a new open source PLM system (Aras).
We believe that this case is interesting for two reason:- tells a story of innovation in times of crisis
- demonstrates how companies adopting open source technologies in their IT infrastructure are satisfied with their choice, because they have innovative and high-performing tools at a low cost.
Topics:- case studies/caveats/success stories on adoption of open source software
- integration of open source software with legacy systems
- success stories on reduction of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
- Agile and Lean methodologies
Target:- CTO
- CIO
- project managers
